ti TEN ic m i n u t e s

Welcome to ‘tiTENic minutes’, an independent project in the form of an audio documentary. It tells the true story of Titanic in a new way and brings it back to life.

New Episodes

Tune in now!

They are in german, though…

The project

Ever since it sank in 1912, Titanic has fascinated millions of people. This podcast tells the story of the legendary ocean liner. James Cameron's classic film ‘TITANIC’ (1997) serves as the central theme. In each episode, 10 minutes of the film are analysed and references to the real Titanic are highlighted and explained. In this way, each episode deals equally with the ship, the sinking and the people on board.

tiTENic minutes brings listeners closer to the story in a way that no social media post, documentary or film could. The ship comes to life with authentic sound atmospheres.

tiTENic minutes

an audio documentary

tiTENic minutes is no ‘babble podcast’, but a carefully prepared audio documentary with pre-written texts, originally produced music and self-created atmospheres that match the scenery all around the ship.

It is important for the project to authentically portray the history of the real ship. The expertise of renowned researchers is also used for this. Experts in conspiracy theories, sound design and historians have already been interviewed.

Author and Host: Raphael

“I am Raphael and this is tiTENic minutes.” I've been studying humanities in Mannheim since 2020: media, culture, German studies - that kind of thing. Titanic has been with me since childhood, I can't even remember the first time I heard the story of the ship. But it hasn’t let go of me to this day.

Even in primary school, I tested the patience of my classmates by giving 45-minute presentations about Titanic. I was always available for a spontaneous presentation until I finished school. The story itself is only one thing. You also have to be able to tell it. James Cameron probably found the best way to tell the story with “TITANIC” (1997). To this day, he continues to inspire both the original audience of the 1990s and the new generation of filmgoers. As Kate Winslet herself says: “It's the movie that keeps on giving.”

Producing the Podcast

careful handwork

At tiTENic minutes, everything is done in-house: from writing the texts and composing the background music to collecting and mixing the sound effects to create authentic atmospheres. Care is taken to convey the spirit of the time in a realistic and dramaturgically appropriate way. Of course, this can't be done without help. Students in Mannheim have given their time, talent and commitment to give characters in the project a voice. This is how the ghosts of 1912 are brought to life.

tiTENic minutes is an independent project. This means that it is created without any funding from third parties and published with no intention of commercial gain. The project is fuelled by a passion for the authentic telling of the tragic yet almost magical story of the ocean liner.

More than
just a story

The trailer for the show says it all: the story of Titanic is more than the tragic sinking of a great ship. It is something other than the ironic failure of supposedly invincible technology. And it goes deeper than mere numbers and data.

It is a story of people.

Of great endeavour.

And of a different time, not so dissimilar to our own.

Aus dem Bericht des Überlebenden Archibald Gracie
